1. Overview

Word for Today ("we", "our", or "the app") is a daily Bible verse and reflection app available on iOS and Android. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

The short version: your personal content (reflections, liked verses, reading history) is stored only on your device. We never upload it to our servers. We do not require an account, and we do not sell your data.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

During onboarding, you may optionally provide:

Your first name — used only to personalise reminder notifications
Your gender — used only to select contextually appropriate content
Onboarding preferences (what you are seeking, your current life season, Bible familiarity, prayer habits, and preferred reading time) — used to tailor your daily verse category

All of this information is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to our servers.

2.2 User-generated content

The following content you create is stored locally on your device:

Reflection responses and personal notes
Liked/saved verses
Reading history and streak data
Achievement progress

2.3 Automatically collected data

We collect anonymous, non-personally-identifiable analytics data via Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand how users interact with the app. This includes:

Screen views and navigation patterns
Feature usage (e.g. liking a verse, sharing, changing theme)
Onboarding funnel and completion rates
Notification permission results and interactions
Paywall views and subscription events

None of this data contains your name, reflection content, or any personally identifiable information. We also use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and error logs to help us fix bugs.

3. How We Use Your Information

To personalise your daily verse and reflection experience
To schedule and deliver local reminder notifications at your chosen time
To track your reading streak and unlock achievements
To improve app stability and performance through crash reports
To understand aggregate usage patterns and improve features
To manage your premium subscription via RevenueCat

We do not use your data for advertising purposes. There are no ads in Word for Today.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your personal content is stored locally in a SQLite database on your device. It is never uploaded to our servers or accessible to us. If you uninstall the app, this data is permanently deleted from your device.

You can export all your data at any time (Settings → Export Data) as a CSV file, and you can permanently delete your data from within the app (Settings → Delete Data).

5. Third-Party Services

Word for Today uses the following third-party services:

Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics (Google) — Anonymous usage analytics and crash reporting. Data is processed in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
RevenueCat — Subscription and in-app purchase management. RevenueCat processes anonymous transaction data in accordance with their Privacy Policy.

We do not use any advertising networks or third-party tracking SDKs.

6. Notifications

Word for Today may send local notifications to remind you to read your daily verse and complete your reflection. These notifications are scheduled entirely on your device — no data is sent to our servers to deliver them. You can disable notifications at any time in the app settings or your device settings.

7. Children's Privacy

Word for Today is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

8. Your Rights

Since your personal content is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can:

Export your data (reflections, liked verses, history) as a CSV file
Delete your reflections, liked verses, or all data from within the app
Uninstall the app to permanently remove all local data

For questions about analytics data collected by Firebase, you may contact us and we will handle requests in accordance with applicable law.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
